Frontman Guitars is a collaboration between Mark Duncan at
stringed instrument builders Butser Mountain Music and entrepreneur and
electronics engineer Dave Joel.
The concept was to build guitars using old parts which capture
the spirit of the old guitars we love but these days cannot afford to buy. When
we first got interested in the vintage market the guitars were often expensive
but clean and for the most part original. These days we are seeing bags of old
bits thrown together and being sold as vintage guitars so we thought we could
get our own bits and see what happened.
The first run of ten guitars are in the offset style using
some new old stock Aria necks from the seventies. Bodies are tulipwood or
southern yellow pine. The pickups are new gold foils and the wiring is all
first class!
Finishes are either hand rubbed shellac or thin nitrocellulose
lacquer.
